My First Stuckist Exhibition

Without knowing it

Oh my god! I just stumbled upon these rare photos from my Leopold Courting Rose exhibition in 2013, 99% taken by Dan Leo, the man touching the sun in the photograph above. Dan would turn me on to Stuckism less than a year later. But look, I was already doing this:

Stuckist Manifesto Statement #18: The Stuckist is opposed to the sterility of the white wall gallery system and calls for exhibitions to be held in homes and musty museums, with access to sofas, tables, chairs and cups of tea. The surroundings in which art is experienced (rather than viewed) should not be artificial and vacuous.

Rose was turning 40 that year, so I piggy-backed her big day with my own loud night. I had a base show of 15 paintings and a book I wrote for her birthday. I also laid out 50 paintings for all to see and hopefully buy because I was and am always desperate about money.

Our little town is art pregnant. So is yours. Do the Stuckist thing and open your doors!
